What is a Batizado e troca de corda:
“Batizado” (baptism) In Capoeira, is an initiation ceremony where students have the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the martial art alongside their peers, in the roda (circle). Depending on group tradition a student may be swept to the ground by a master or by a Graduaded high level capoeirista as a part of their induction into the capoeira world. Although all our members participate in the Batizado and Troca de Cordas event, a Capoeira student can only call it a batizado if it is their first one. Students receiving new cord ranking are taking part in the troca de cordas, or changing of cords ceremony, that is a part of the batizado. We invite mestres, instructors, and graduated students to visit and help with this ceremony. I hope that I have given you a better understanding of this event and what it means to our children’s program. Below is the information needed for the event, we encourage you to bring friends and family to come watch the children play capoeira and receive their new cordas.
